It's ironic that a year with so much adventure and travel was actually a deep struggle internally. A luxurious yacht represented long days of work, a vast desert was a proverbial refueling station, and a happy baby was a confrontation of my identity. My monthly expenses doubled overnight, while my income dwindled all year long. On top of all that was a failed business endeavor and the physical reality of aging. At least I endured it in some pretty parts of the world.
